ACTIVITIES: GOLFING - GREENS

Accurate Putting
by Corey Hamlin, PGA Director of Golf at DeBary Golf and Country Club

Let's face it, the real challenge in golf is sinking those putts !  With more accurate putting, your scores can drop 2, 4, or even 6 shots per round lower.  Try these 3 tips to become a more accurate putter on the course at DeBary Golf and Country Club or whichever course you play ! I GUARANTEE these will help you !

  • Get your eyes directly over the golf ball, ensuring that you are looking straight downwards on the ball.  This allows your arms to hang down naturally, giving you the best chance to swing the putter smoothly back and through.
  • Find your spot !  Instead of trying to figure out how many inches or feet the ball will break on the green, measure it in "easier to see" terms, such as 1 ball, 2 balls, 3 balls, or 1 cup, 2 cups, 3 cups, etc.
  • Even out your stroke !  Ensure that your stroke is 50/50 back and through.  This allows your distance control to be more accurate, which helps you be more consistent on your green reading.

For more tips on lowering your scores, our PGA Professional Staff at DeBary Golf and Country Club is ready to help you !  Call either Corey Hamlin, PGA Director of Golf or Jeff Peterson, PGA Director of Instruction, at (386) 668-1705 ext. 222.  Good Luck on the links !
